Thump Coffee House offers a unique exhibition featuring local Bend author and artist Molly Carroll, an acclaimed public speaker for teachers, administrators, parents and physicians across the country.
Carroll grew up in Omaha, Nebraska in a large, loving, Irish Catholic family. When she was 18 years old, she boarded an airplane for Flagstaff, Arizona where she attended college and began a life filled with national and international homes and travel. It was her upbringing that laid the foundation for her love of art and creativity. She received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Sociology from Northern Arizona University and her masters in Counseling Psychology At Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. Carroll then spent many years as a teacher, social skill program director, writer, artist and therapist. She has guided many families and children to discover what helps them grow, transform and make positive change in their lives.
In 2015, Carroll completed and published her first book, Cracking Open. It is an artistic self-help journal, which draws on Molly’s professional and personal experience as a therapist, mother, daughter, sister and community member. “I have always loved to paint, continually inspired by all that is around me. While writing Cracking Open I intuitively knew that art would also inspire the reader to not only be more creative, but go deeper in their healing process.”
Molly is a passionate artist and writer who currently lives in beautiful Bend with her husband and two children. In August, Molly’s adventure will continue as she and her family moves to Barcelona, Spain.
“Molly’s artwork, like Molly herself, has an immediacy to it. Each piece captivates the viewer’s attention, inviting them to unearth the story within the image.” Jenny Green — Jenny Green Gallery
This exhibition is organized and circulated by Thump Coffee.

Cracking Open is a self-help creative journal that is beautifully illustrated with therapeutic tools and thought provoking questions to guide the reader in discovering their true self. It is Chicken Soup for the Soul meets Sark and has the vibrantly illustrated space of Sabrina Ward Harrison or Keri Smith’s journals.
What allows Cracking Open to stand apart is the 20 years of experience that Molly Carroll has as an educator and therapist combined with her novel way of artistically encouraging the reader to escape fear, dream big and ultimately crack open to the discover who they are meant to be. With research in this genre Cracking Open is one artistic journal that is written and illustrated by an artist yet has the knowledge and experience of a therapist. It is creative, raw and inviting.
