The versatility of artist Kim Jones has been recognized by the Deschutes Children’s Foundation as she has been chosen as the 2011 Signature Artist for the 19th annual Art Wine Auction. Her painting, Rejuvenation, will be the centerpiece of the event.
Jacob Fain, event development coordinator for the Foundation commented, “Most of my initial research was done by viewing artists’ websites combing through back issues of A&E. As a staff we collectively carefully narrowed down our list of c idates to three artists. Kim’s use of color creative vision presented us with an opportunity to feature an artist unlike any of our past Signature Artists. Kim’s unique style moved her to the top of the list.”
When asked about her inspiration behind the creation of Rejuvenation, Jones stated, “I did not have a clear picture in my mind when I began this painting, like I often do. This painting was all about color for me. I think there is a lot of meaning behind color the way different colors affect us. I knew I wanted a big turquoise sky the painting just evolved from there. Blue is the color of truth, serenity, harmony. It is the color of inspiration inner peace. The yellows add an element of joy happiness. And the green signifies regeneration, rebirth, prosperity vitality.”
Jones’ artistic background began with studies in interior design at Northern Arizona University. She soon moved to Bend began work in interior design until 1990 when she decided to pursue her art as a muralist. A decade of working on a very large scale took its toll on her body, so she decided to transition to painting on canvas.
Jones begins all of her works in her imagination; thoughts on a sleepless night can mean three paintings to start in the morning. The studio space she her husb built in their house has plenty of wall space, big windows inspiring views this provides the perfect background to foster her ever changing evolving style subject matter.
“Unlike many artists who only paint l scapes, or flowers, for instance, I like diversity. I paint abstracts, figurative, l scapes, anything that excites me at the time. Color design are often my inspiration…My favorite thing to do is walk into a home create the perfect painting to enhance any space. I believe that art really can transform a room from ordinary to extraordinary.”
Jones has been showing her work around Central Oregon for years. Currently she is displaying her paintings at Red Chair Gallery in Bend the Artists Gallery in Sunriver. Her art as been prominent in the Tour of Homes for the last eight years she has shown over 40 paintings throughout. She loves to promote other artists, for the last five years has hosted an art party in her home where a variety of artists sell their work celebrate the arts community.
