The New York female Americana trio Red Molly, a visionary blend of voices that redefine harmony singing with the power physicality of folksong a 2011 Sisters Folk Festival fan-favorite, will appear at the Winter Concert for the Sisters Folk Festival on March 8. 

The group recently released its br new CD, Light in the Sky.  The last CD, James, was named #23 on the Americana Chart’s Top 100 Albums of 2010 so far Light in the Sky is making good headway, debuting at #1 on Folk DJ charts spending 15 weeks in the top 15 for Americana charts.

Once again, with the “tick-tight arrangements, crystalline vocals caramel harmonies” that the Boston Globe praised, Red Molly creates an album with gorgeous a cappella ballads, bluegrass-tinged folk a touch of jazzy western swing, all done up in Red Molly’s trademark three-part harmonies, signature dobro licks inventive arrangements. The title sets the theme for the 14 tracks: optimism, joy, excitement for the future.

From their 2004 start, the trio got attention with their lively, engaging stage performances. They moved quickly from NYC coffeehouses to the festival circuit in less than two years, winning notices for their performances at Merlefest, the Philadephia Folk Festival NPR’s Mountain Stage. Last year, when founding member Carolann Solebello stepped down, Laurie MacAllister Abbie Gardner asked Austin-based singer songwriter guitarist Molly Venter to join the b . “Molly has a unique, edgy tone to her voice,” MacAllister says. “Her sound is a bit pop-oriented, while it hasn’t changed our overall sound, I’d say it’s a bit more gutsy, upbeat modern.”
