The Community Orchestra of Central Oregon (COCO), announces its spring concert weekend. The orchestra will play two performances on June 8 and 9, 2019.On Saturday June 8, the orchestra has its first opportunity to perform in Madras at the Performing Arts Center. In another first for COCO, event co-sponsor Dance Arts of Madras joins the orchestra for one of their pieces. The concert starts at 2pm at the Performing Arts Center, 412 SE Buff St., Madras.On Sunday June 9, COCO returns to play at Trinity Lutheran Church. Joining the orchestra for this performance is the Academie de Ballet Classique of Bend. Trinity Music Department co-sponsors the event. The music starts at 2pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2550 NE Butler Market Rd., Bend.The concert program features a wide variety of music, from classical pieces by Wagner, Tchaikovsky and Grieg, to popular favorites from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Henry Mancini, as well as some Latin and Jazz fare. Coffee and home-baked treats are served at program intermission. Both concerts are free and open to the public.In its fifth season, COCO comprises 45 musicians, a number of whom also share their abilities with the Cascade Horizon Band, the Cascade Winds and the Central Oregon Symphony. They are led by conductor Sam Taylor, who has been with the orchestra since its inception. In addition to conducting, Sam is a concert violinist, violin instructor, and composer. COCO’s repertoire includes a variety of genres and appeals to a wide range of tastes.
