Bendites may be familiar with Bandy’s work from her jewelry and art shop in downtown Bend, and she has selected some of her paintings to be on display at the beautiful North Rim Lodge through the end of May. Bandy is passionate about her paining – loving the versatility and impermanence the medium affords her as an artist. “It’s not precious until it is complete,” she said, “it can be changed, altered, painted over, and scrubbed away.” Those characteristics has led to her newest style, incorporating layered paints, revealing underpainting, shapes and textures, resulting in an abstract painting communicating feelings and mood with the viewer. The use of brilliant color (drawn from her gemstone experience) continues to play an important part of her art. Visitors are invited to view her work at the lodge by appointment. 541-388-3001, linda@brooksresources.com

The current Wine Country Series combines the artist’s unique techniques with her passion for Oregon wine. These artworks celebrate Oregon’s place as one of the world’s leading wine-producing regions, with Log Cabin blocks composed of collaged labels from Oregon wineries. Many Oregon vintners furnished labels for the art with David Fish at Fox Farm Vineyards offering the labels that inspired this project. The artist’s 30+year career includes teaching textile arts at Portland State University and her art appears in numerous collections including General Motors, Calvin Klein and large-scale collaborative commissions such as the High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Florida. Art Adventure Gallery 185 SE Fifth St., 541-475-6317. www.artadventuregallery.com. Laurie Lyman Balmuth of Hood River. Reception May 4, 5:30-7pm. The paintings start as a study from life done on the touch screen of an iPad using the Brushes App. They are called “digital finger paintings” which is a good description of completely freehand drawings that do not use photography or vector drawing. The iPad allows many subtle overlays of lines and color that are then picked up in subsequent digital manipulation. The quality of the information captured is completely different and distinct from a photograph of objects or a photograph of a drawing or a painting. The Brushes App saves every line to building up a painting. Some of the work is painted or flocked after it is printed to add a third dimension. www.lauriebalmuth.com/index.htm.

When not camping with her family or skiing on Mt. Bachelor, Bend native Dori Kite was begging for art supplies of one kind or another and creating whatever she could with whatever she had. Her first experience working with clay came at Bend High School with Tom Temple. “When I watched him take a ball of clay and turn it into a lovely vessel, I was hooked.”
Her first pottery showing was at Cindercone Clay Center in April 2011, where she maintains a small studio space. Her work there earned her an invitation to Potters for Education in July 2011 and to the Clay Guild of the Cascades’ Wildfire Pottery Showcase in November. Dori says that her work is influenced by everything and everyone in her life. Her current forms are mostly hand-built from slabs, but you will see hints of wheel-thrown shapes added here and there.
Painter Kim Jones has exhibited and sold her work throughout Central Oregon for many years, and is now a member of the Artists Gallery Sunriver. Her paintings have been prominent in the Tour of Homes, where she is known to show a large variety of art, working with designers to complement each and every room. Kim has an interior design background and her favorite thing to do is to create just the right painting to enhance any space. Dynamic composition, powerful expression and vibrant colors, along with imagination help create her works of depth and dimension.
