Sisters Art Works Entry Gallery 204 W. Adams, 541-420 9695, www.sistersartworks.com. Loraine Albertson Photography, Humble Healing thru November 30. Albertson grew up in San Francisco in the 60s and marriage brought her to Central Oregon in 1985. She grew up in the world of art as her father was a recognized painter, author and director of the National Center for Arts & Religion. An artist in her own right, Albertson weaves those early influences into her own work as well. She is a painter, textile artist and has worked as a curator, professional costumer and space planner.
Albertson is a designer for museums and corporations and has spent many years developing visual prototypes and design plans for major national retailers.
More recently she has been devoting her skills to private label designs. Her latest photographs are contained in a show titled Humble Healing, which she says, “explores the dualities of strength and impermanence.” The photographs are mediations on healing and grace; as part of the artist’s spiritual journey of living with cancer. She draws inspiration from the stories that are held within old rusty things.
Her subjects, often seen through a macro lens, are pieces of our modern history that most of us just walk past. “I’m captivated by the lives of old things – those things once useful and honored, now orphans of time, that have been discarded, ravaged by the elements and deemed useless. These things have whole worlds of stories to tell, and to me they transcend age and time in wisdom, beauty and strength.”
Her message is personal. Her message is human. She captures images full of texture and subtle color, inviting each viewer to look again with new eyes at the wonder and metaphor in the world of astoundingly beautiful common things, and perhaps see something of ourselves there too.
