Mapping contemporary gallery will inspire and engage Old Mill District shoppers this holiday season, opening November 14.
The Old Mill District, announced a gallery pop-up dubbed “mapping contemporary” will open in the space across from REI. The gallery, whose name is a nod to “setting coordinates for Central Oregon’s contemporary art scene,” will feature art ranging from jewelry to large-scale sculptures, plus everything in between. The pop-up gallery will be open November 14-December 30, 2012.
Many of the artists featured in the temporary gallery have previously shown their work at Atelier 6000 and Art in High Desert, as well as being published in the High Desert Journal. These regional artists working in various mediums include: Mark Rodriguez, mixed media; Galen Ruud, sculpture; Randy Smithey and Holly Rodes-Smithey, sculpture and painting; Pat Clark, printmaking; Julie Winter, printmaking; Patty Freeman Martin, printmaking, painting and drawing; Ron Schultz, encaustic and printmaking; plus many others.
mapping contemporary will also be hosting select jewelry and fiber trunk shows throughout the season. Hours for the gallery will be 11am-6pm Wednesday – Sunday at 425 S.W. Powerhouse Drive.

New retailers are popping up in the Old Mill District just in time for the holidays from Oregon Locker Room offering official sportswear and memorabilia to made in Central Oregon DANI Naturals, Nashelle featuring jewelry using recycled precious metals to a gallery pop up in the old Lahaina Galleries space: mapping contemporary, a collection of the region’s contemporary works featuring printmaking to ceramics, large-scale sculpture to jewelry and mixed media to encaustics.

DANI Naturals will open a pop-up store in the Old Mill District on November 14 across from Chico’s and next to Desperado. Nashelle is passionate about creating beautiful jewelry using recycled precious metals and natural gemstones. Nashelle’s designs include semi-precious stones, hydro quartz and glass beads and all pieces are made in 14 k gold fill, sterling silver or brass. Nashelle often creates cause-related pieces with proceeds benefitting specific regional and local nonprofits. These items will also be for sale in the Old Mill District location.
