August 24-25 enjoy a rip-roaring lineup of rootin’ tootin’ stunt shows, shootouts and saloon girls, showcasing the best of the area’s fierce frontier spirit. Creekside Park off Highway 20 will be transformed into a cool cowboy camp with Native American food, crafts and costumed dancers to entertain the whole family. Story by Jeff Spry Cascade AE
“This is a test model for a much larger event I want to bring to the region next year,’ explained promoter Richard Esterman. “Besides the Pine Mountain Posse, we have Warm Springs Museum coming in with a Native American history program and display. There will be authentic teepees and all sorts of info on their way of life.”
On the Old West side of the event, a 50-foot western town façade named Howdy Town will rise from the lawns, provided by Kathy Smith from Prairie City. Her faux frontier storefronts have been used in several historical re-enactment competitions and is just a small portion of the entire replica town. Six guns and smoke wagons will be blazing when the Pine Mountain Posse performs a series of western skits and shootouts with three performances on Saturday and Sunday at high noon, 1pm and 2pm.
“This is a first for Sisters, if you can believe that,” said Esterman. “The folks with Pine Mountain Posse put on an amazing stunt show. It’s a journey back to the American past and they really get into it, with authentic cowboy gear and colorful dialog.”
Directly adjacent to rowdy Howdy Town will be a popular saloon beer garden hosted by Hardtails Bar and Grill, with a variety of regional brews in frosty mugs slid along the bartop.
In addition to the exciting gunfights and Native American presence, there will be craftsmen, vendors and exhibitors dressed in full western costume, arts and crafts, antiques, trick roping showcases, blacksmith forging demonstrations and other surprises.
“This is our first year so we’re hoping for a fun turnout. And with Sisters’ western themes, inspiring Cascade views and rodeo flair, it’s a perfect way to celebrate the history and heritage of the region. In creating these new events I ask myself what can I do to bring business to our community and I think this Wild West Show is a positive, natural addition to the Sisters calendar and just one of many more coming on down the trail.”
Sisters Wild West Show runs Saturday and Sunday, August 24-25 at Sisters Creekside Park on Highway 20 & Jefferson Street. Hours are Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.
