Celebrating the return of the sun, the renewal of the earth and the launching of a busy Central Oregon outdoor event season, the free NorthWest Crossing Bend Spring Festival takes place in the downtown-like corridor of NorthWest Crossing Drive, in the award-winning Northwest Crossing Neighborhood on Bend’s Westside April 11-13.
Last year saw our highest attendance with over 10,000 people coming out to explore the original art, to chalk on the streets, to enjoy a robust offering of children’s activities, live music, great food, wine, beer, cocktails and ciders. This is the most intimate seasonal festival in Bend, and offers a rare opportunity to personally connect with artisans.
The NorthWest Crossing Bend Spring Festival, co-presented by The Source Weekly and Whole Foods Market, will take place Friday, April 11 through Sunday April 13. Friday evening kicks off with the Art and Wine Bop from 5-9pm, featuring a sneak preview of festival fine art, wine sampling and offerings of live music strategically placed inside the cozy confines of many NorthWest Crossing merchants. Again this year we will add a free concert alongside the Bop, starting at 5pm with 2nd Hand Soldiers, followed by Hobbs the Band and ending on a highly energetic note starting at 9:30pm with Larry and His Flask on Northwest Crossing Drive.
The festival at large kicks off on Saturday from 11am to 11pm and again on Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Over 50 upcyled artisans, fine artists, global importers and crafters will be present in addition to a street dedicated to resourceful living. This year we are thrilled to host the TRASHFORMATIONS exhibit at this year’s festival. TRASHFORMATIONS is a brilliant partnership between Pak-It Liquidators, a local liquidation store and The Environmental Center, where from April 4 through April 6 this year (8am-5pm all three days), Pak-It opens their yard and store to individuals and teams of all ages, amateurs and professional artists alike, to create one of a kind sculptures, all recycled from the store. This year the sculptures will be delivered and installed in NorthWest Crossing during the festival for public viewing. The caliber sculptures will be visible throughout the festival with signage denoting materials and artist.
The Conscious Living Showcase sponsored by Northwest Quality Roofing and Great Northern Window and Door, will feature over 40 regional businesses who support a high quality of life here in Central Oregon.
A more detailed glance at the festival:
Friday, April 11 – Art and Wine Bop 5-9pm. This event will feature festival artists, live music and wine tasting inside participating NorthWest Crossing restaurants and retailers. Musicians will play live music 5-9pm in the businesses. Concurrently, the concert mentioned above featuring 2nd Hand Soldiers, Hobbs the Band and Larry and His Flask will be performing on the first block of NorthWest Crossing at Mt. Washington Drive, on the Peak 104.1fm festival mainstage. The festival food court and bars will be open from 5–11pm.

Fine Artists Promenade
At the heart of NorthWest Crossing Bend Spring Festival are the artisans and craftspeople that bring their soulful and energetic talent to the street to showcase and sell their art. This intimate collection of 40+ fine artists allows festival attendees to take time reviewing the art and connecting with each artisan.
Our curated collection this year offers art for all ages, and is intentional in offering products for the conscious consumer.
Best of Jury- Karsten Boysen – Port Orchard, WA
Karsten Boysen holds bachelor degrees in art and education, and a masters of fine arts degree, all from the University of Washington. His sculptures are created from recycled steel found in scrap yards. A bend, burned steel frame of a mobile home that was destroyed in a fire inspired him to see the beauty in loss. The shapes of the steel damaged by fire created a visual foundation for his art that continues to evolve today.
The artist has numerous large public percent-for-art and private art commissions in Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Arizona. He formerly instructed art at the University of Washington, the University of Alaska, Juneau; and was Washington State Arts Commission Artist-in-Residence at the Seward Park Art Studio in Seattle.
Boysen explains his art in the manner of a native Alaska artist who worked with ivory. ‘To make a bear, start with a piece of ivory and cut everything away that does not look like a bear,’” he says.
Souk de Spring Festival Block
The term “souk” originates from the Middle East and is defined as an open-air market, and that’s just what you’ll find. With vendors and produce stands from India, Africa, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world, this area proves to be quite an international experience.

Street Chalk Art Competition and Exhibition
Continuing to build momentum from last year’s wildly successful street chalk art competition, which included more than 100 participants, this year’s competition will include four luminary exhibition artists. Here are this year’s competition guidelines:
