Join us for an enlightening event featuring two distinguished speakers, Dr. Anders Carlson and Daniela Naomi Molnar, each offering unique perspectives on the intersection of art and science in the context of transitions and migration in the face of climate change.
This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited so registration is required.

Navigating Glacial Changes – Dr. Anders Carlson
Delve into the world of glaciers with Dr. Anders Carlson (Oregon Glaciers Institute), a seasoned expert in glacial geology. Dr. Carlson will share insights into the impact of global warming on Oregon’s Cascades glaciers. His talk will explore the vital role these glaciers play in regional ecosystems, particularly as essential water resources during late summer.
Through recent mapping, Dr. Carlson will unveil the dynamic responses of glaciers to human-induced climate change, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the climate crisis. Gain a deeper understanding of the migration of glacier termini to higher elevations and the resulting alterations in the Cascade water cycle.

“New Earth”: Art as a Response to Climate Crisis – Daniela Naomi Molnar
Embark on an artistic journey with Daniela Naomi Molnar as she introduces her ongoing project, “New Earth.” Molnar, an accomplished artist, poet, and pigment worker, captures the shapes of newly exposed ground near glaciers—a poignant result of climate change. In her talk, Molnar will discuss the metaphorical wounds represented in her art and the critical awareness they evoke. “New Earth” transcends traditional representations of climate facts, inviting emotional, psychological, and spiritual engagement with the consequences of climate change. Molnar’s intentional use of abstract maps drawn from NASA satellite imagery creates a sensory space for experiencing a range of emotions, from grief and fear to wonder.

Together, these talks offer a unique fusion of art and science, shedding light on the transitions and migrations of our natural landscapes in the face of environmental challenges.
