BEAT Brings It’s a Wonderful Life to 2nd Street Theater

awonderfullifeThe story It’s a Wonderful Life is synonymous with the holidays. Almost everyone remembers Jimmy Stewart’s heart-wrenching turn as George Bailey in the 1940’s film, often considered one of the most inspirational and best loved movies in American cinema. Now the Bend community can enjoy a production of the play by BEAT, the Bend Experimental Art Theatre, this December at 2nd Street Theater.

It’s a Wonderful Life is the heart-warming saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been repeatedly quashed by notions of family obligation and civic duty. It is Christmas Eve and George’s guardian angel, Clarence, descends to save him from despair and to remind him (by showing him what the world would be like had he never been born) that his has been a wonderful life after all. This sparkling and magical play not only celebrates the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy of life: that hard work, fair play, and the love and support of family and community will be rewarded.

“The message in It’s a Wonderful Life is passionately brought to life by young actors in this amazing production,” said David DaCosta, the director. “The kids have grown so much in the process of developing this play to the incredible show it is now. Audiences will appreciate the time and talent in It’s a Wonderful Life.”

The BEAT production features nineteen actors ranging from age seven to 18, and one adult. In additional to the public shows BEAT has sold out five Cultural Student Performances, at much reduced ticket rates, to continue to support the growth of the performing arts at the source; our children.
