The summer Live at the Ranch series kicks off at 5pm on Sunday, July 21 with a performance by award-winning vocalist/songwriter/harmonica icon Curtis Salgado. Salgado, a Eugene native and now Portland, Oregon, based blues, R&B and soul singer-songwriter, has been a Northwest music legend since his six year stint with Robert Cray’s band. He is also credited with being the inspiration for John Belushi’s character of Joliet Jake in The Blues Brothers, and the Blues Brother’s debut album Briefcase Full of Blues is dedicated to Salgado. Salgado has toured with The Steve Miller Band and spent a summer singing with Santana before being sidelined by health issues. In 2005, he was diagnosed with liver cancer, and underwent a successful liver transplant in 2006. He’s battled all the way back, and, after a full and complete recovery, has been tearing up concert stages all over the country.
Winner of the 2010 Blues Music Award for Soul Blues Artist of the Year, Salgado effortlessly mixes blues, funk and R&B with a delivery that is raw and heartfelt. Salgado’s 2012 album, Soul Shot (Alligator Records), was picked for Soul Blues Album of the Year, and Salgado was also named the Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year and 2013 B.B. King Entertainer of the Year.
Salgado is known for playing each and every show like it’s the most important one of his career, and his performance at Black Butte Ranch is guaranteed to bring the audience to their feet.
Sunday, August 25 marks the date for the second “Live at the Ranch” concert, with a highly anticipated performance by The Black Lillies.
