Caldera will host a series of Saturday “Open Studio” events that are free open to the public. Caldera presents the work of professional artists from across the country. Upcoming Open Studio dates are February 25 March 24, 1-3pm. Open Studios take place in Caldera’s beautiful Arts Center at Blue Lake, just west of the town of Sisters, Oregon.
The Open Studio series is a special opportunity to experience part of the creative process that happens most often behind closed doors, of an exceptional group of artists writers.
It showcases works-in-progress by artists who have been awarded four-week stays at Blue Lake through Caldera’s Artist in Residence program. The artists, who have been selected through an application jurying process, stay in a private cottage during their residency, work in a studio or work space at Caldera’s Arts Center.
Featured January artists was poet J. Hope Stein, visual artist Ann Lovett, writer Ben Moorad, visual artist dancer collaboration Suniti Dernovsek/ David Stein visual artist Jerry Monteith.
February artist include: poet Harvey Hix, visual artist Erin Beaver, writer Leanne Hall, performer Kate S erson Holly visual artist Erik Peterson.
March presents poet Ahimsa Bodhran, composer musician Sean Frenette, writer Kristin Steele, fiber artist Jerry Flom photographer/installation artist/filmmaker Vanessa Renwick.
Studios will be open for self-guided tours as well as scheduled talks, which begin at 1:20pm by the artists. Refreshments a warm fire in Caldera’s Hearth Arts Center are a tradition for these informal, friendly often surprising events. Each month will be a different experience!
In addition to the Open Studio events, some artists in Caldera’s Residency Program contribute to Caldera’s Youth Program, visiting students in classrooms in Sisters Middle High School, as well as create workshops for the Sisters Community.
