Celebrate July at the Artists’ Gallery Sunriver

You will find that July brings more than just fireworks and sunshine at the Artists’ Gallery in Sunriver. The gallery features four artists in July, each one with a unique approach to their art form. July 13 Second Saturday Artists’ Reception is 4 – 7pm with wine and beer tastings and a meet and greet with the artists.

KimJonesKim Jones is an established local artist whose fine art paintings have been displayed in multiple venues in Central Oregon including the annual Tour of Homes. Kim’s paintings have a contemporary feel, but the style and subject matter of her art is always changing. Light, texture and mood are key elements she uses to compose her works while striving to make each piece dramatic yet calm at the same time. Kim says that she always paints what makes her heart sing.

sunstoneArtist Karla Proud’s jewelry was a huge hit in the gallery from its introduction in the last few years. A major portion of her beautiful pieces are based around the Oregon state gemstone, the Oregon Sunstone. It is difficult to resist this beautiful stone that ranges in color from champagne to deep ruby red. Karla, who worked in Hawaii for many years, creates designs influenced by romantic Hawaiian legend. Her Naupaka flower earrings are inspired by the Hawaiian princess and her love for a commoner, Kaui. The ‘half flower’ motif makes a perfect presentation for either an Oregon sunstone or a pearl.

RickBraitswaiteAlthough sculptor Rick Braithwaite is new to the gallery, he has lived and worked in Central Oregon since 1990. Rick works exclusively with oil-based clay, creating original pieces that inspire and some that are just down right funny. His process includes making a latex mold of the original clay art, then a plaster mold around the mold. The finished mold is filled a substance called HydraStone and various coloring agents to create the final art form. One bronze piece at the gallery, The Long Embrace, features a couple in an embrace, their hair and arms entwined in a rapturous pose inspired by famous sculptors, August Rodin and Lorenzo Bernini.

DeniPorterDeni Porter’s technique of color glazing (multiple translucent layers of color one on top of the other) results in the rich, vibrant colors typical in her work. Her subject matter is not your typical watercolor landscape. The artist is best with the vivid colors found right here in Central Oregon, especially the beautiful views in and around Sunriver. Some of Deni’s most popular paintings include the staples of a Sunriver vacation such as biking, watersports and concerts. Each summer, Deni produces a series of paintings depicting bears on vacation in Sunriver. You will find paintings of bears engaged in typical Sunriver activities like swimming at the SHARC or drinking beer at the local brewery.
