Artistic director Victoria Kristy-Zalewski let the cat, the donkey, the dog and the rooster out of the bag when she announced the first show to be presented by the brand new Sunriver Stars Community Theater will be The Brementown Musicians.
“Our performance dates will be August 24-26. Sunriver will be filled with children so presenting a play designed to entertain them seems the perfect choice. We will also be working with a shoestring budget and this play fits the bill,” Kristy-Zalewski said.
Presented on an open stage at the new SHARC, the audience will arrive to find the cast in mid rehearsal and quite surprised that theatergoers are expecting to see a play that very afternoon. Following the time-tested motto that “the show must go on,” the harried director encourages the actors to search through an old trunk and come up with costumes and set pieces to present the humorous tale.
The cast includes a pessimistic donkey, a cunning cat, an old hound dog and a flighty rooster as well as a few cantankerous humans. The lines are funny, the play fast-paced and it will definitely provide an hour of fun.
“Auditions are not until July, but this is the time to spread the word and get residents interested,” said Kristi-Zalewski. “Locals are already contacting me through our website (www.sunriverstars.com) to let me know they want to serve on the board of directors or be involved with the show in some capacity. Our first networking social proved to be the spring-board for many creative ideas.”
Kristy-Zalewski has 40 years experience directing children’s theatre across Arizona, California and Washington.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children or seniors. A family ticket will also be offered at $13 for a family of four.
All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the scholarship fund for FAST Camp and other SROA sponsored programs for local children. It is hoped that Sunriver residents will sponsor the fledgling theater through memberships.
