Open Studios features Caldera’s January Artists in Residence, Unit Souzou, a performing ensemble rooted in traditions of Taiko, Japanese folk dance, and theatre.
Unit Souzou will share a dynamic work-in-progress showing of their new project “Constant State of Otherness”, which builds empathy and identity by exploring experiences of home, belonging, movement, and kinship. Through movement, storytelling, audio clips and taiko, this new theatrical work will be a series of identity stories based on the life experiences of the company and community engagement participants spanning from the east to west coasts of the United States weaving a narrative, rhythmic journey.
This project is being created in collaboration with community members from Central Oregon and will be presented at Caldera in spring 2020.
