In what is now a holiday tradition, the Central Oregon Mastersingers return to Bend’s Tower Theatre to present their annual Christmas concert on December 14-15. The concert, A Baroque Christmas, features Magnificat by J.S. Bach.
This brilliant masterpiece for chorus, soloists and orchestra is one of Bach’s most beloved choral works, and a cornerstone of the Christmas repertoire. The Mastersingers will be joined on stage by a 24-piece orchestra, all under the direction of maestro Clyde Thompson. Also on the program will be familiar carols and lighter works to celebrate the season.
Soloists in Magnificat are Trish Sewell, Katy Hays, Melissa Carter, Christian Clark and Danny Brown. “There is fantastic talent here in Central Oregon,” Thompson commented, “and I feel lucky to be able to work with all 70 musicians in this concert. It’s a very exciting time to be involved in the arts here.”
Robberson Ford and Pacific Power sponsor the concerts. The 10 Below restaurant in the Oxford Inn will offer show-night dinner specials.
