August 22 Roy Zimmerman brings his hilarious performance of progressive satire and song back to the Central Oregon Environmental Center at 7pm.
Zimmerman’s June 5 performance got rave reviews from those who saw him and he returns by popular demand.
Zimmerman writes and sings satirical songs about “class warfare, creationism, same-sex marriage, guns, marijuana, abstinence, Republicans, ignorance, war and greed.” His 90-minute show targets conservatives: there’s a post-hypnotic suggestion to “Vote Republican,” an exuberant paean to “Real America,” a love song to Citizens United, a lesson in “Creation Science 101,” a lambasting of the “Defenders of Marriage” who oppose same-sex unions, and a “Sing-Along Second Amendment” that demands audience participation.
“I’m not preaching to the converted,” says Zimmerman. “I’m entertaining the troops.” He regularly posts new songs at www.royzimmerman.com. Zimmerman has shared stages with Bill Maher, the late George Carlin, John Oliver, Dennis Miller, Sandra Tsing Loh, kd lang, Andy Borowitz and Paul Krassner.
Tickets are $15 at the door. All are welcome and no one will be turned away. The Environmental Center is at 16 NW Kansas, just east of Bond Street in downtown Bend. The show is sponsored by the Central Oregon Social Justice Center and Central Oregon Jobs with Justice.
