Pianist and Steinway artist Timothy Durkovic has performed in High Desert Chamber Music’s (HDCM) Concert Series numerous times over the past decade. Last season, he joined Principal Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Martin Chalifour, and in previous seasons he appeared with Ensemble Paradiso and the Central4 Piano Quartet. Born and raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala, his musical education spanned from the National Conservatory of Guatemala to the Juilliard School and the Thornton School of Music at USC. He holds a master’s degree in piano performance, and he is the winner of several major piano competitions, including Grand Prize Winner of the Los Angeles Liszt Competition.
Based in Los Angeles, Durkovic is an active soloist and chamber musician, performing nationally and internationally and collaborating with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Lynn Harrell, Martin Chalifour, Helen Callus, the Calder Quartet, the Miró Quartet and the Casal Quartet. He has served as the Director of Keyboard Studies at Long Beach City College, as well as on the faculties of the Orange County High School of the Arts, the University of La Verne, and the USC Thornton School of Music.
Durkovic’s performances are consistently met with rave reviews. His playing as has been described as having great “sensitivity to colors” (Salt Lake City Tribune). Barbara Lister-Sink says that “Timothy Durkovic combines the virtuosity, sound and heartbreaking lyricism of a bygone era with extraordinary fire and intensity. On the world stage, he is one of the most gifted performers of his generation — a powerful, authentic pianist.”
High Desert Chamber Music’s Tenth Anniversary season presents Timothy Durkovic performing with violinist Isabelle Senger and French horn player Laura Brenes at the Tower Theatre on Wednesday, February 14, at 8pm.
