Sunriver Lodge Betty Gray Gallery presents acrylic l scapes by Gary Vincent mixed media abstracts by D L Watson opening on August 28 continuing through September 30 in the upper gallery.
Vincent of Bend presents multi-hued, expressionistic acrylic l scapes interpreting Central Oregon scenes in varied seasons.  The exhibition includes lily ponds evergreens in summer, aspens other flora in fall, barren forests in winter snow.
In painting, he develops the composition central to the image then works in successive, often visible layers to create movement depth.  This layering of color achieves a subtlety of hue clarity of surface seldom observed in acrylic painting.  Study with Ovanes Berberian Del Gish, associates of the renowned Russian Impressionist, Sergi Bongart, influenced his expert use of color.
Vincent also works in the tradition of Bongart who stressed painting from the heart saying, “The spirit of the painting can trump technique.”  The artist notes that his feelings about nature inform his artistic choices his paintings clearly reveal a deep affection for the Oregon l scape expressed on canvas. His art appears in collections throughout the U.S. in the Pronghorn Resort.
Watson’s mixed media, abstract paintings, titled to broadly suggest themes such as music or environmental challenges, are non-representational in actual imagery.   Rather, they are an expression of the artist’s emotions, both conscious subconscious, which emerge as the painting evolves.
The artist’s process reveals the expressive nature of her art created through complex layering.  This process involves multiple mediums – oil, acrylic, metallic pigment, crayon others – with varied applications – brushwork, drawing, collage, stenciling– further refined by techniques – scrapping, taking away or covering up, application of heat solvents– until the emotion finds its expression on the canvas.                                    
Watson notes that as the emotion finds expression, appearing on the canvas, a feeling of vulnerability arises.  Thus the largely experimental process, a very personal experience, is complete as the invisible finds form.  
The artist resides in Sunriver during the summer months in Southern Florida during winter months where galleries exhibit her artwork year-round.  Artslant, a  contemporary web-based art network, awarded her an Abstract Painting Showcase award a Painting Showcase award in 2011.
