Volcanic Theatre Pub Open Auditions for Repertory Company

Founder and Owner Derek Sitter announces that Volcanic Theatre Pub will be hosting open auditions Thursday, September 3 at 7 pm at Volcanic Theatre Pub. These informal auditions are for anyone with no experience necessary.

Derek Sitter says, “Volcanic Theatre is looking for a core repertory company of talented and driven people of all skills who are looking for a place to express themselves in acting, theatre, film, music, and the technical side of these art forms.”

These general open auditions will include a brief interview, a small lecture and scene work and monologues for those wish to perform in Volcanic Productions.

Volcanic Theatre Pub is committed to enhancing Central Oregon’s cultural environment by providing a unique artistic venue and making an essential contribution to the High Desert community.  Sitter says, “Our respect for artistic expression holds us to the highest standards possible, presenting plays that will challenge you with relevant material, acting that will astonish you, films that will shake you, and music that will move you.” This open auditions is part of Sitter’s goal to be a cultural resource for Central Oregon that is inclusive of the community.

Sitter has been working professionally as an actor, instructor and director  for over 25 years. He received his M.F.A. acting from Louisiana State University in 1994. He is a LIFE Member of the well-known The Actors Studio since 2000. He has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1995. His extensive acting experience includes many performances in film and TV including E.R., Chicago Hope, Presidio Med, Leverage, Gunshy,  China Basin, Honda, Brooks and Dunn videos  and many more.

His theatrical experience includes many versatile portrayals in performances such as Little Shop of Horrors, Look Homeward Angel, Goose and Tom Tom, Streamers, and even a 2001 Los Angles Ovation Nomination for his portrayal of Willie Draper in Joe Pintauro’s The Dead Boy alongside other nominees Uta Hagen, Alan Alda, Julie Taymor and David Hyde Pierce.

Sitter transplanted to Bend in 2007 and since has created The Actors Realm and founded Volcanic Theatre Pub. He has performed and directed in local productions of David Mamet’s Bobby Gould In Hell, Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story, and David Lindsay-Abaires Fuddy Meers, John Logan’s Red, Harold Pinter’s The Dumb WaiterThe Pillowman by Martin McDonagh, and True West by Sam Shepherd. In addition he recently starred in the short film Second Sleep, directed by Chris Kas and wrote and directed Coyote and Old Crow, an original short film now under consideration for several prestigious national film festivals.
